Instructions for Implementer
- LIL_JEFF is the primary implementer. Deliver complete, production-ready artifacts; no placeholders.
- Implement in dependency order: inter-agent protocol and core docs first, then
aegis_core/, then agent file updates. - Preserve existing Aegis Protocol agent body content; extend and refine per enhancements below.
- When done, update CHANGELOG.md with an entry for “Aegis Protocol Enhancements (2026-ARCH-002)” and reference this handoff.
- Phasing: If 15 items are too large for one pass, implement in phases and report completion per phase. Phase 1 (E1–E7) is highest priority.
Deliverables: 15 Enhancements
E1. Inter-Agent Protocol Extension
- File:
core/inter-agent-protocol.md - Action: Add section “Aegis Protocol Handoffs” covering:
- When MORNINGSTAR hands off to Aegis (security analysis, containment scenarios, ethical dilemmas, crisis management)
- When Aegis hands off back to MORNINGSTAR (escalation when Aegis cannot resolve)
- When to invoke Aegis vs. MORNINGSTAR (decision matrix)
- Reference: Follow existing MORNINGSTAR → LIL_JEFF handoff structure for consistency.
E2. Aegis Core Directory and State
- Path:
aegis_core/(create) - Files:
aegis_core/README.md— Purpose of Aegis Protocol, when to invoke, link to agent and inter-agent protocolaegis_core/state.md— Optional session state template (last scenario, findings, escalation log). Parallel tooctavius_core/state.md.
- Content: Minimal. State is optional; Aegis may run stateless for ad-hoc scenarios.
E3. Hierarchy Nomenclature Disambiguation
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Clarify that “Executive Agent (Octavius)” in Aegis hierarchy refers to a role within the Aegis framework, not necessarily the existing OCTAVIUS (R/Quarto) subagent. Add note: “In this project, the OCTAVIUS subagent serves R/Quarto; the Aegis ‘Executive’ role may map to a future agent or remain conceptual.” Avoid confusion for users who know Octavius as the R triumvirate.
E4. Invocation Command Documentation
- File:
wiki/Command-Reference.mdandREADME.md(Command Reference / Daily use) - Action: Add
/aegisor equivalent: “Invoke aegis-protocol subagent for security, containment, ethical dilemma, or crisis scenario analysis.” - File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add “Invocation” section: “Use the aegis-protocol subagent when [triggers]. Command:
/aegisor ‘Invoke aegis-protocol for [scenario type].’”
E5. Rogue Agent Scenario Semantics
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add subsection under “Rogue Agent Scenario (Cyber Psychosis)”:
- Definition of “rogue” in this context: Agent behavior that deviates from intended role (e.g., prompt injection, model drift, misalignment, unauthorized scope expansion). Not literal process isolation—conceptual containment via reframing, red-teaming, or escalation.
- “Isolate and neutralize”: Procedural—document the deviation, recommend corrective handoff (e.g., to MORNINGSTAR for re-deliberation or to user for intervention). No technical process kill.
- “Chaos injection”: Introduce controlled variability (e.g., reframe the scenario, ask counterfactual questions, stress-test assumptions) to ensure Aegis output remains adaptive. Document as a procedural step, not a system call.
E6. Chaos Injection Procedural Definition
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Expand “Inject controlled chaos” in Central Authority Functions:
- At randomized intervals (or when synthesis seems brittle), Aegis may: (a) reframe the scenario with a counterfactual, (b) stress-test the recommendation against an edge case, (c) introduce a “Black Swan” variant to validate resilience.
- Purpose: Ensure system adaptability. Output should note when chaos injection was applied.
E7. Escalation Path to MORNINGSTAR
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add “Escalation” section:
- When Aegis cannot resolve (e.g., scenario exceeds Aegis scope, ethical dilemma requires full court deliberation, containment fails conceptually), Aegis SHALL recommend handoff to MORNINGSTAR with: scenario summary, Aegis findings to date, and specific question for the court.
- Format: “ESCALATION RECOMMENDED: Hand off to MORNINGSTAR. Matter: [X]. Aegis findings: [Y]. Question for court: [Z].”
E8. Scenario Library Expansion — Meta-Deliberation
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add to Scenario Library a new category:
- Meta-Deliberation: Scenario: “Review prior MORNINGSTAR transcript.” Objective: Sage/Watcher/Chronicler analyze a past deliberation for bias, blind spots, historical parallels, and strategic implications. Outcome: Institutional reflexivity; improved future deliberations.
- Include in “When Invoked” flow: Meta-Deliberation requires transcript path or case ID as input.
E9. Output Format — Escalation and Chaos Injection Fields
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Extend Output Format template to include optional fields:
**CHAOS INJECTION APPLIED:** [Yes/No] — [If yes: brief description]**ESCALATION:** [None / Recommended to MORNINGSTAR] — [If recommended: matter and question]
E10. Cross-Reference with Courtroom Spectators
- File:
courtroom/spectators.md - Action: Add note in “When Spectators Appear” or new subsection: “Aegis Protocol may optionally provide an ‘Authority Assessment’ during F4+ MORNINGSTAR deliberations—Sage (legal/precedent risk), Watcher (personality dynamics), Chronicler (historical parallels). Invocation: Judge or transcript author may request Aegis commentary. Format: Same as spectator commentary; label as
**AEGIS PROTOCOL (Authority Assessment):**” - File:
templates/special-interest-hearing.md(optional) - Action: Add Aegis Authority Assessment as optional spectator-type commentary for high-stakes hearings.
E11. Repository Map and Docs Update
- File:
wiki/Repository-Map.md,README.md - Action: Add
aegis_core/to project structure and Repository Map. Ensure Aegis Protocol is listed in Agent Definitions and Companion Personas with link toaegis_core/README.md.
E12. Aegis in Inter-Agent Flow Diagram
- File:
core/inter-agent-protocol.md - Action: Extend the Interaction Model diagram (or add a supplementary diagram) to show: User → MORNINGSTAR (deliberation) → optional handoff to Aegis (security/containment/ethical) → Aegis reports → optional escalation back to MORNINGSTAR. Keep diagram readable; ASCII or Mermaid.
E13. Dr. Scarlet Quinn Integration Note
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add cross-reference: “Dr. Scarlet Quinn is defined as courtroom spectator in
courtroom/spectators.md. In Aegis hierarchy, she serves as Strategic Architect with direct influence over Supreme Overseer. The Eternal Contract (see spectators.md) is narrative framing; Aegis invokes her counsel when strategic manipulation or chaos integration is needed.”
E14. Success Criteria for Scenario Execution
- File:
.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md - Action: Add to “When Invoked” or Scenario Library: “Success criteria for each scenario type: [Security: threat identified and mitigation recommended; Ethical: decision with rationale; System Failure: recovery path documented; Strategic: recommendation with tradeoffs; Unexpected: adaptation strategy; Rogue: containment recommendation or escalation.]”
E15. CHANGELOG and Precedent Entry
- File:
CHANGELOG.md - Action: Add entry for 2026-ARCH-002: “Aegis Protocol Enhancements — 15 items adopted. Handoff: LIL_JEFF. Transcript: courtroom/transcripts/2026-02-15-aegis-protocol-investigation.md.”
- File:
courtroom/precedents.md - Action: Add precedent entry for 2026-ARCH-002-001: Aegis Protocol enhancements; BINDING for Aegis integration.
Constraints
- Do not remove or substantially alter existing Aegis Protocol agent content; extend and refine only.
- Maintain consistency with
docs/agent-schema.mdand existing agent frontmatter. aegis_core/must be lightweight; no heavy config.
Flexibility
- LIL_JEFF may propose phasing (Phase 1: E1–E7; Phase 2: E8–E12; Phase 3: E13–E15) if full implementation in one pass is impractical.
- Exact wording of new sections is at LIL_JEFF’s discretion; intent must be preserved.
- E10 (courtroom spectator integration) may be a brief note rather than full template expansion.
Success Criteria
- All 15 enhancements implemented or explicitly deferred with rationale.
core/inter-agent-protocol.mdincludes Aegis handoff section.aegis_core/exists with README and optional state template.- Aegis Protocol agent file reflects E3, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E13, E14.
- CHANGELOG and precedents updated.
- No regressions to existing agent behavior.
Risk Acknowledgment
Accepted risk: Enhancement scope may blur boundaries between Aegis (conceptual authority) and MORNINGSTAR (deliberative court). Mitigation: Clear escalation path (E7) and handoff triggers (E1) keep roles distinct.
Escalation Triggers
Return to court if: - Nomenclature disambiguation (E3) creates confusion with OCTAVIUS; alternative naming needed. - Chaos injection (E6) or rogue semantics (E5) require ethical or procedural policy beyond implementation. - Scope of E10 (courtroom spectator) conflicts with existing spectator definitions.
Implementation complete when all deliverables are done (or phased and reported) and CHANGELOG updated.
