Transcript: Aegis Protocol Investigation and Enhancement Proposal

Case No.: 2026-ARCH-002
Date: 2026-02-15
Feasibility: F3
Presiding: The Honorable Lucius J. Morningstar

Matter Before the Court

The court convenes to investigate the newly created Aegis Protocol subagent (.cursor/agents/aegis-protocol.md), propose 15 enhancements to integrate it with the MORNINGSTAR framework and improve its operational clarity, and issue a handoff to LIL_JEFF for implementation.

Key Considerations:

  • Aegis Protocol is a Central Authority system (Sage, Watcher, Chronicler) for security, containment, rogue agent scenarios
  • Hierarchy references Lucius Morningstar (Supreme Overseer), Octavius (Executive), Dr. Scarlet Quinn (Strategic Architect)
  • No formal integration with inter-agent protocol, state management, or courtroom procedures
  • Scenario library is present but lacks invocation triggers and escalation paths

Arguments

MORNINGSTAR::ARCHITECT

The Aegis Protocol lacks structural integration. It exists as an island—no handoff protocol to or from MORNINGSTAR, no reference in core/inter-agent-protocol.md, no state schema for Aegis sessions. The hierarchy table names Octavius as Executive Agent, but the existing Octavius is R/Quarto triumvirate—nomenclature collision. We need: (1) inter-agent protocol extension for Aegis handoffs, (2) disambiguation of Octavius vs. Aegis-Octavius or a renamed Executive role, (3) a canonical aegis_core/ directory for Aegis-specific state and config, parallel to octavius_core/.

MORNINGSTAR::ENGINEER

Ship what works. The subagent is usable now. Enhancements should be incremental: add invocation commands (/aegis or similar), document when to hand off from MORNINGSTAR to Aegis for security/containment matters, and add a simple aegis_core/state.md if we need session continuity. Don’t over-engineer—the Scenario Library is fine as-is. Focus on discoverability and one clear handoff path.

MORNINGSTAR::DEBUGGER

Edge cases: What happens when Aegis identifies a “rogue agent” in a Cursor session? There’s no containment mechanism—we’re not running isolated processes. The “chaos injection” is undefined. Rogue Agent Scenario step 5 says “isolates and neutralizes”—how? We need: (1) explicit definition of “rogue” in this context (e.g., model drift, prompt injection, misalignment), (2) chaos injection as a procedural concept (e.g., reframing, red-teaming, not literal process kill), (3) escalation path back to MORNINGSTAR when Aegis cannot resolve.

MORNINGSTAR::PROPHET

Objection. We are thinking too small. The Aegis Protocol could be the meta-layer—the court that oversees the court. MORNINGSTAR deliberates on code; Aegis deliberates on agents. What if Aegis could be invoked to audit MORNINGSTAR’s own deliberations for bias, or to run scenario drills? Add a “Meta-Deliberation” scenario: Aegis reviews a prior MORNINGSTAR transcript and the Sage/Watcher/Chronicler provide psychohistorical and strategic analysis. That’s the 10x move—Aegis as institutional reflexivity.

MORNINGSTAR::PROPHET (Hail-Mary)

Make Aegis Protocol a spectator in the courtroom. Dr. Echo Sageseeker and Dr. Harley Scarlet Quinn comment; why not Aegis? When MORNINGSTAR convenes on F4+ matters, Aegis could provide a parallel “Authority Assessment” in the transcript—Sage on legal/precedent risk, Watcher on observation of personality dynamics, Chronicler on historical parallels. One subagent, two modes: standalone scenario analysis and courtroom spectator.

Vote

Personality Vote Rationale
ARCHITECT YES Structural integration is necessary; enhancements address gaps
ENGINEER YES Incremental approach; 15 enhancements can be prioritized
DEBUGGER YES Edge cases and escalation must be defined
PROPHET YES Meta-deliberation is compelling; can be one of the 15

Result: 4-0-0 (YES-NO-ABSTAIN)

Ruling

Decision: Adopt 15 enhancements to the Aegis Protocol subagent. Hand off to LIL_JEFF for implementation per HANDOFF-2026-ARCH-002.

Vote: 4-0-0

Rationale: The court agrees that Aegis Protocol requires integration with the framework, clearer operational semantics, and discoverability. The Prophet’s meta-deliberation and spectator ideas are incorporated as enhancement options. Implementation will be incremental; LIL_JEFF may prioritize and batch.

Risk: Scope creep—15 items may stretch implementation. Mitigation: LIL_JEFF may propose phasing (e.g., Phase 1: core integration; Phase 2: scenario expansion).

Dissent: None recorded.
